Convert Pattern Terms

Here you can quickly switch between UK and US crochet terms. This will make following the pattern easier as all terms will be converted to your preferred version.

Pattern Notes

  • This pattern is written in UK terms but is switchable to US terms above.
  • You will be working in rounds without turning. The pattern comes in two sizes. Advice for adapting can be found below. Please read through entire pattern before starting.
  • Need to make adjustments depending on the size of your hair tie? No problem! Simply work as many stitches as you need for Round 1. The aim is to have as many stitches as you need cover all of the hair tie – remember to pull them round as you work. Then work the next rounds as needed. The only thing that will change is your stitch count!

Gauge

  • Gauge is not critical for this pattern. The important thing is that you are adequately covering the hair tie in round one.

Completed Size

Mini: 9cm X 9cm (3.5in x 3.5in) approx

Maxi: 10cm X 10cm (4in X 4in) approx

Finishing Off

You want to be mindful of how you sew in your ends due to the nature of how the scrunchie is used. Here’s what I recommend.

The two tail ends from the final round can be sewn in in opposite directions across the base of the final row. I always recommend the ‘rule of 3;’ which mean you sew one way, back the other way and then back again.

The other tail ends can be sewn at the base of round 2. Do NOT sew round one around the base of round one as it will shift when stretching the scrunchie.
