Crochet yourself a beautiful bespoke mood blanket made up of granny squares. This crochet mood blanket project is worked over 365 days however it doesn’t have to be a New Years project you can start any time. Alternatively you can crochet away until you are happy with the size of your blanket.

what is a mood blanket?

This beautiful crochet blanket makes there perfect mindful make throughout the year and gives you the perfect excuse to grab your hook and create a granny square each day. I’d highly recommend the join as you go method and sew in these ends each day too to avoid that daunting moment unless you love sewing in your ends then ignore me, personally I HATE that job, lol!

All you have to do is write a list of moods you often feel and assign a colour yarn to that mood. I would recommend you stocking up on the yarn colours of your choice before starting to avoid running out of a specific colour.

Don’t worry if you happen to miss a square you could use these days to join, remember this project should be fun and let’s face it there are days when we really don’t feel like it. I’d recommend still making a note of that mood as you could always batch make your squares on a Sunday afternoon.

Crochet Mood Blanket

CROCHET MOOD BLANKET PATTERN

Foundation: Ch6 stitches, insert hook into first chain to make a circle

Round 1: Ch3 (this will count as your first tr) working into the middle of the circle: 2tr, ch3, 3tr, ch3, 3tr, ch3, 3tr, ch3. Insert hook into third chain from the centre and ss.

Round 2: Ch4, 3tr into next chain space (corner) ch3, 3tr (into same corner) ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch3, 2tr, insert hook into third chain and ss.

Round 3: Ch3, 2tr into chain space, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr, (into same corner) ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, insert yarn into third chain from hook and ss.

Round 4: ch4, 3tr into next chain space, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 2tr, insert yarn into third chain from hook and ss.

I added a further cream border to each square in order to define the colours, but this is optional.

To add the cream border:

Connect your yarn in a corner space. ch4, 3tr into next chain space, ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch1,

3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch3, 3tr (into same corner), ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr, ch1, 3tr,

ch1, 3tr, ch3, 2tr, insert yarn into third chain from hook and ss.

Squares can be attached using ‘join as you go’ method or by crocheting them together using double crochet (US single crochet).

To add a shell border:

Work one double crochet between each stitch all the way around the blanket to create a base. Work 3 double stitches into the corner sections. Connect your first stitch to your last.

Now, working in each of the double crochets: *5 Treble Crochets into the 2nd space from the hook, skip a space, slip stitch.*

Repeat all the way around until the beginning.

NOTE: Sometimes you may need to skip extra spaces in the corners.

While I don’t have a video tutorial for this blanket, I have a trio of tutorials that can help you create your own blanket.

You could also further customise your mood blanket by using a different type of granny square. Why not try the Mitered Square for a fun shape? This sweet little square will create a wonderfully modern, graphic blanket.

Or you could customise the Granny Square Heart and change just the colour of the heart to reflect your daily mood.

This would really depend on how big you wish the blanket to be. It would also depend on the yarn you are using, your hook size and your personal tension 🙂

This is really difficult to answer as it would depend on your personal tension. Maybe you could done one square and then work it out from there 🙂
