Louise herself says, “I absolutely adore bees, my garden at home is planted full of flowers that attract bees and butterflies and watching them buzzing around gives me so much joy. Of course, you can’t cuddle a real-life bee, so I thought I’d make a cute crochet buddy to avoid any stings! The bees pictured are made using a beautifully soft, chenille yarn to mimic the fuzzy fur on real bees but this pattern would work just as well with any other DK or aran weight yarn.“ As this is a guest post, Bella Coco Crochet is unable to answer any queries. Crochet Bee Materials and Tools Materials & Tools Yarn: DK weight yarn (less than 25g) in three colours. The designer used Sirdar Happy Chenille in shades Duckling, Ink Spot and Soda Pop for the yellow bee. The pink bee uses Fuzzy, Ink Spot and Soda Pop. Double crochet (dc): Insert your hook into the chain or stitch, yarn over and pull through (you will have two loops on the hook) yarn over and pull the yarn through both loops on the hook. Half treble crochet (htr): Yarn over and insert your hook into the chain or stitch, yarn over and pull through (you will have three loops on the hook) yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook. Treble crochet (tr): Yarn over and insert your hook into the chain or stitch, yarn over and pull through (you will have three loops on the hook) yarn over and pull through two loops (you will have two loops on your hook) yarn over and pull the yarn through both of the remaining loops on the hook. Double crochet two together (dc2tog): Decrease (insert hook, yarn over and pull through, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull through, yarn over, pull through all three loops) Stitch/es (st/s) MC: Main colour (in the examples this is yellow and pink) CC: Contrast colour (in the examples this is black) CC2: Contrast colour 2 (in the examples this is white) Pin for later Crochet Bee Pattern Crochet Bee by Designer Louise Assisting Tutorial – Magic Ring/Circle Body With MC yarn, begin with a magic ring and then DC 6 in the circle. Rnd 1: 2dc in each stitch around (12 stitches) Rnd 2: *1dc, 2dc in next stitch* repeat (18 stitches) Rnd 3: *2dc, 2dc in next stitch* repeat (18 stitches) Change to CC yarn Rnd 4 & 5: dc around Change to MC yarn Rnd 6 & 7: dc around Change to CC yarn Rnd 8 & 9: dc around Change to MC yarn Rnd 10 & 11: dc around Change to CC yarn Rnd 12: *2dc, dc2tog* repeat (18 stitches) Rnd 13: *1dc, dc2tog* repeat (18 stitches) Stuff bee and add eyes to the face. This is where you began working. I used 5mm safety eyes, but you can easily embroider the eyes. Rnd 14: dc2tog around (6 stitches) Fasten off leaving a long tail then tighten the hole so it leaves no gaps and using this tail end you can then weave the tail end through each stitch and cinching closed. Crochet Bee by Designer Louise Wings For this project you need to make two wings. Begin with a magic circle. Inside the centre hole, 1dc, 1htr, 3tr, 1htr, 1dc. Turn your work, ch1 then 5 dc across. FO and secure. Stitch these wings on to the top side of your bee. I left one stitch between the wings. Antenna Ch10, tie off with a long tail. Thread this tail through a needle and pull through head.
