Learn how to crochet a quick and easy headband with my free step-by-step pattern and video tutorial. This project is perfect for crocheters of all skill levels, even if you’re just getting comfortable with the basics. You can whip up this beauty in under an hour using simple stitches and minimal materials—great for last-minute gifts or a satisfying creative break.

Materials & Tools

Yarn: Yarnsmith Create DK, 100% acrylic, 100g (3.5oz), 290m (317yds) in shade
Light Grey Heather (3020) 1 ball.
Hook: 4mm (G-6)
Darning needle
Scissors

Terms & Abbreviations

Skip Stitch(s): sk st(s): Skip indicated stitch or chain.
Chain(s): ch(s): Yarn over, pull through.
Half Treble Crochet(s): htr(s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining three loops.
Back Loop Only: BLO: Working into the back loop of the stitch. This abbreviation will follow with the stitch to be worked. E.g. BLOdc (Back loop only double crochet).

Free Pattern: Crochet Headband

You are viewing this pattern in UK terms.

Chain 86
Row 1: Working in the back bump of the ch, htr in 2nd ch from hook and each ch
across (missed ch do not count as st) [85 sts]

Row 2-11: Ch 2 (does not count as st) BLOhtr in 1st st and across.
Fasten off leaving a 30cm tail end for sewing.

You will now to join the row ends to form the knot.

Fold row ends together so that half of the short ends are touching and the other
halves are overhanging. Wrap each side of the overhang around the opposite
end. (IMAGE A)

After folding the row ends together you will have 4 thicknesses (IMAGE B & C)

Using long tail end, sew the 4 thicknesses together and sew in ends.

Twist the work so the right side is facing to reveal the knot.
