In this tutorial, you’ll find a step-by-step pattern and video tutorial to create your own reusable crochet bottle holder. Stay hydrated in style with this easy crochet bottle holder pattern!

Whether you want a quick grab handle or a shoulder strap, this pattern is easily customisable. I love the fact that this pattern can look so different just by switching up the main color and contrast color.

Materials & Tools

Yarn: COTTAGE COTTON 60% Cotton, 40% Acrylic, #4 aran/worsted weight yarn. 100g (3.5oz), 190m (207yds).
Samples made in shades (Small) MC Chiffon 0007, CC Stone Blue 0002. (Large) MC Blossom 0015, CC Chiffon 0007.
Hook: 5mm (US H-8)

Double Crochet(s): dc(s): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

Special Stitches

Invisible Join: Cut yarn leaving a 15cm tail and thread onto darning needle. Insert under both loops of the first stitch, pull through, then insert back down through centre of the last stitch. Pull snug and weave in the end.
Standing Double Crochet(s): stdc(s): Slightly pull up working loop to the height of a double crochet, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.
Treble Crochet(s): tr(s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

Back Post Double Crochet(s): BPdc(s): Insert hook from back of work to the front, then from front to back around the post of the stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.
Stacked Double Crochet(s): sdc(s): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops. Pattern Notes

This pattern is written in UK terms but is switchable to US terms above.
You will be working in rows to make the base of the bag before working in the round to form the main bag section.
Ch 1 at the beginning of the row/round does not count as a stitch.
You will be using an interlocking technique which means you will be joining the current and previous rounds when working the granny cluster rounds.
When working your V-stitches two rounds down, you will be working in front of the previous granny cluster round.
When working the interlocking rounds of the main body, you drop the colour not being used leaving a working loop. Always ensure your main colour (MC) is dropped to the front of the work and the contrast colour (CC) is dropped to the back.
The written pattern is written as: crossbody (tote)

Gauge

Base measures 6.5cm (2.5inch) after round 5.

Completed Size

Measured laid flat and excluding base and handle/strap.

Small: W 11.5cm x H 17cm (4.5inch x 6.75inch)

Tall: W 13.5cm x 20cm (5.2inch x 8inch)

Yarn Quantites

Small bottle holder uses approx 31g of MC and 28g of CC.

Large bottle holder uses approx 59g of MC and 38g of CC.

Adjustments

You can adjust the base of the project depending on the size of the bottle you wish to cover by adding a stitch between each increase for each round. The important thing is that the base is slightly smaller than the bottle circumference.

You can also add as many rounds as needed for the height of the bottle, but be mindful that the final four rounds will measure around 2cm (0.75inch).

Using MC, make MR

Round 1: Work 6 dc in magic ring. Join with ss to first st. <6 dc>

Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count as st here or throughout). Work 2 dc in each st around. Join with ss to first st. <12 dc>

Round 3: Ch 1, dc in first st, 2 dc in next st. *Dc in next st, 2 dc in next st; rep from * around. Join with ss to first st. <18 dc>

Round 4: Ch 1, dc in first 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. *Dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st; rep from * around. Join with ss to first st. <24 dc>

Round 5: Ch 1, dc in first 3 sts, 2 dc in next st. *Dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st; rep from * around. Join with ss to first st. <30 dc>

Large Only

Round 6: Ch 1, dc in first 3 sts, 2 dc in next st. *Dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st; rep from * around. Join with ss to first st. <36 dc>

All Sizes

Main Body Set Up

Round 1: Ch 1, BPdc in each st around. Join with ss to first st. <30 (36) sts>

Round 2: Ch 1, dc in each st around. Join with ss to first st.

Main Body

Round 3: Ch 1, dc in first st, ch 2, skip 2 sts. *dc in next st, ch 2, skip 2 sts; rep from * around. Join with ss to first st. Pull up loop & remove hook. <10 (12) dc, 10 (12) ch-2, 10 (12) ch-sps>

Always keep MC to the front.

Attach CC to ch-2 sp after the join.

Round 4 -6

Round 4: Ch 3 (counts as st) 2tr in same sp, skip a st, *3tr in ch-sp (granny cluster made), skip a st; rep from * around. Join with a ss to first st. Pull up loop & remove hook.

Round 5: Ch 4 (counts as tr and ch-1), tr in same st. (Vst in next dc from round 3) around. Join with ss to third ch of beg ch-4. Pull up loop & remove hook.

Pick up CC.

Round 6: Working through both thicknesses around, work a sdc through the ch- sp of Vst from previous round and sp between granny clusters, work 2 tr in same sp. *3 tr in next Vst/cluster sp (IMAGE I, J, K & L); rep from * around. Join with ss in top of stdc. Pull up loop & remove hook.

Pick up MC.

Round 7: Ch 4 (counts as tr and ch-1), tr in same st. (Vst in next sp between Vsts from two rows previous) around. Join with ss to third ch of beg ch-4. Pull up loop.

Round 8-27 (33): Rep round 6 & 7, ten (thirteen) more times.

Fasten off CC.

Pick up MC.

Round 7: Ch 4 (counts as tr and ch-1), tr in same st. (Vst in next sp between Vsts from two rows previous) around. Join with ss to third ch of beg ch-4. Pull up loop.

Round 8-27 (33): Rep round 6 & 7, ten (thirteen) more times.

Fasten off CC.

Handle/Strap

Row 1: Ch 1, dc in first st and next 5 sts. Turn. <6 sts>

Row 2-40 (130): Ch 1, dc in each st across. Turn. Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.

Count 9 (12) sts from the base of the handle and place a marker in the next st. Ensuring the strap isn’t twisted, align the end with the marked st. Using a darning needle, whipstitch through marked st and continue across, working through both loops on each piece to join. Secure end.

Weave in all remaining ends.
