To quote Anne of Green Gables, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” Not only is it peak crochet season, it’s the perfect time to get bundled up in cosy crochet Autumn accessories. I find such joy in digging out my basket of Autumn crochet.

Starting with the home décor; tiny pumpkins, leaf garlands, tea cosies and my latest pattern, the modern Autumn wreath and then moving on to the Autumn wearables. Cosy scarves, toasty mitts and warm hats. Feeling the soft squish of the yarn between my fingers and the promise of warmth on a chilly October day is such a special experience.

In the past, I’ve shared round-ups mostly focused on adding seasonal Autumn touches to your home décor and creating a cosy nest for the cooler weather.

You can catch up with there posts here:

Today, I want to feature on keeping YOU warm. So, this collection of cosy crochet is all about the wearables.

WHAT YARN IS PERFECT FOR AUTUMN?

While Summer is all about light-weight yarns that are designed to wick sweat and keep you cool, Autumn is the perfect time to dig out the fluffy, chunky and woolly stuff.

Once again, natural blends are the king. With wool and wool blends keeping you the cosiest.

Did you know, wool is also fab for keeping you dry in wet weather! Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in water without even feeling wet. Magic!

MillaMia Naturally Soft Aran is one of my favourites for cold weather crochet. The merino is buttersoft and feels fab against skin plus the soft colour palette is so beautiful.

West Yorkshire Spinners Re:Treat is also lovely for Autumn. The think, plumptious chunky weight crochets up quickly and will keep you nice and toasty even on the gloomiest of Autumn days.

If you’re looking for a more budget friendly option, acrylic is perfect. I love Paintbox Simply Aran weight for Autumn crochet.
