Terms & Abbreviations

Chain(s): ch(s): Yarn over, pull through

Slip Stitch(s): sl st: Insert hook, yarn over pull through stitch and loop on hook

Double Crochet(s): dc(s): Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.

Double Crochet 2 together: dc2tog: Insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have two loops on the hook. Insert hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through rall three loops on the hook.

Special Stitches

Cluster Stitch(s): cs(s): Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 (2 loops on the hook) Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 (3 loops on the hook). Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 (4 loops on the hook) Yarn over, pull through all 4 loops on the hook. Ch 1 to secure.

Free Crochet Pattern: Mini Christmas Stocking

Using colour A, chain 38.

You are viewing this pattern in UK terms.

Round 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc across. (36 stitches)

Round 2-6: Ch2, turn work, dc across. (36 stitches)

Round 7: Ch2, turn work, dc2tog, dc in next 30 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st. (34 stitches)

Round 8: Ch2, turn work, dc2tog, dc in next 28 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st. (32 stitches)

Tie off yarn, turn work and attach yarn in the 7th st from previous row.

Round 9: Ch2, dc across remaining 19 sts. (20 stitches)

Round 10-18: ch2, turn work, dc in next 19 spaces (20 stitches)

Tie off yarn, attach colour B.

Round 19-22: Ch2, turn work, dc across (20 stitches)

Fold work right sides facing, dc around edge working through both thicknesses (Working over colour A only) Tie off yarn and continue dc around work using colour B.

Sew in ends and turn right side out.

Pom pom: Attach yarn towards the front of the stocking. *Ch6, cs in 3rd ch from hook. Ch3, cs in top of last cluster, fold to stitches onto each other and ss together. Repeat from * once more.

These stockings look great in alternative colours so if traditional Christmas colours aren’t your thing don’t be afraid to try different colour combinations. The stockings pictured below are made using the following yarn. Left Stocking Style Craft Special DK in Mushroom (1832) and Cream (1005). Right Stocking: James C Brett Twinkle DK in silver (8) and Style Craft Special DK in Pale Rose (1080).

    Hi I managed to make the stocking. I would like to make one a little smaller…am I best to start with less stitches or smaller hook? Also I’m not very good at the completing of it, so I’ll need to work on the edges. Thank you it was so easy to follow for a newbie.
