Learn how to crochet a half-solid vertical hexagon with my free step-by-step pattern. When it comes to crochet motifs, hexagons are a firm favourite. They are perfect for creating beautiful blankets, garments, and home décor. But if you’ve ever worked with hexagons, you’ll know that sometimes you need a little something extra to make your project come together neatly. That’s where the solid half hexagon vertical comes in!

This clever little shape is designed to fill the gaps at the edges of your work, giving you a polished finish and a professional look.

A light green crochet solid half hexagon motif displayed on a white marble surface, surrounded by a wooden-handled crochet hook, gold embroidery scissors, a wooden ruler, and eucalyptus leaves for styling.

Ways to Use This Stitch

  • Blankets: use them along the edges of hexagon blankets to straighten out the sides for a neat border.
  • Shawls & Wraps: perfect for filling in edges so your shawl sits evenly on the shoulders.
  • Table Runners & Place Mats: create crisp, finished edges that look polished on display.
  • Wall Hangings: half hexagons help create tidy borders when working with geometric designs.
  • Scarves & Snoods: especially if made with hexagon motifs; half hexagons keep the scarf even and wearable.
  • Garments: useful for squaring off edges so pieces fit together neatly.
  • Cushion Covers: makes joining motifs easier and create smooth edges for sewing onto pillow forms.
