Stitch(s): st(s)

Slip Stitch(s): ss(s): Insert hook, yarn over, pull through stitch and loop on hook.

Chain(s): ch(s): Yarn over, pull through loop on the hook.

Foundation half treble(s): fhtr(s): Ch 2, yarn over, insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, yarn over and pull up a loop, ch 1 (this creates a chain), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook (this creates the htr), *yarn over, insert hook into ‘ch’ just made, yarn over pull up a loop, ch 1, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook, rep from * for indicated number of sts for the foundation.

Half Treble Crochet(s): htr(s): Yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, you will have three loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through remaining three loops.

Special Stitches

Beginning Feather Stitch (BFS): Yarn over, insert hook into first ch-sp, yarn over, pull up a loop in line with loops on the hook (3 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook into ch-1 sp or skipped st two rows below, yarn over, pull up a loop in line with loops on the hook (5 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in next ch-1 sp, yarn over and pull up a loop in line with loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook.

Free Pattern: Crochet Earwarmers

Headband

Foundation: Work 63 (67, 75) (83, 93, 101) fhtr. Turn.

  • Row 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout) htr in first st, *ch 1, skip a st, htr in next st; rep from * across. Turn. <63 (67, 75) (83, 93, 101) sts>
  • Row 2: Ch 1, htr in first st, ch 1. BFS, ch 1, [FeS, ch 1] 29 (31, 35, 39) (44, 48) times. Htr in last st. Turn <30 (32, 36) (40, 45, 49) FeS & ch 1, 2 htr (all sizes)>

Baby, Toddler and Child Only

  • Row 3: Repeat row 2.
  • Row 4: Ch 1, htr in first st. *htr in ch-sp, htr in next st; rep from * across until you have 1 st remaining, htr in last st. <63 (67, 75) sts>
  • Row 5-8: Repeat row 1-4. Fasten off leaving a long tail end for sewing.

Tween, Adult and Adult large only

  • Row 3 & 4: Repeat row 2.
  • Row 5: Ch 1, htr in first st. *htr in ch-sp, htr in next st; rep from * across until you have 1 st remaining, htr in last st. <83 (93, 101) sts>
  • Row 6-10: Repeat rows 1-5. Fasten off leaving a long tail ends for sewing.

Joining (all sizes)

  • Fold row ends together so that half of the short ends are touching and the other halves are overhanging.
  • Wrap each side of the overhang around the opposite end.
  • After folding the row ends together you will have 4 thicknesses.
  • Using long tail end, sew the 4 thicknesses together and sew in ends.
  • Twist the work so the right side is facing to reveal the knot.
