While crocheting in a single yarn colour can be wonderful, there’s something really special about bright, bold and beautiful colourful projects. There are a few ways to achieve this effect, you can use a colour changing yarn like Caron Cakes or Paintbox Chunky Pots or you can learn how to change colours in crochet. I promise, it’s not hard! I’m going to show you how to change your yarn at the end of a row and also mid-row so you can master colourful projects with ease. With this easy-to-follow tutorial, you’ll be juggling yarn balls in NO TIME!*
*I wish I could teach you how to crochet with multiple colours and never get tangled. I’m convinced it’s impossible!
Mastering colour changes is vital if you’d like to hook up the recent guest post design, Oh So Boho Wall Hanging, but it’s also useful for granny squares, blankets and C2C graphgans.

Learning how to change colours in crochet is a fundamental skill that’s needed for any projects that use two or more yarn colours. It might look tricky, but this technique is suitable for all skill levels from beginner to experienced hooker. It just takes a bit of time and patience to master it fully! In my video I demonstrate how to change colours using both the double crochet and treble crochet stitch but it’s super simple to adapt for any stitch type. I suggest you grab a couple of contrasting colour yarns and a hook, watch the video and practice with me.
Pretty soon you’ll be hooking up rainbows! 🌈
